Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
